Time travel done so right.
Something kind of interesting about my experience reading All Our Yesterdays, was that I read it in tandem with Shakespeare's Macbeth, which I had been reading for school. It was cool coming across the famous soliloquy in which Macbeth talks about Lady Mac's death, and seeing the title of the book I was reading. Though it's written in the inside of the novel, and I knew it was coming, it was still a cool occurrence.
Goodreads Review: The first time I read Cristin Terrill's explanation of time travel, I was highly skeptical. It seemed as if she had exploited the use of this "sentiment" loophole, where time fixed itself to erase paradoxes. It seemed too simple to be true. However, the more I read, the more it made sense, and the more the simplicity of it proved to be a small stroke of genius. I freaking loved this book! Everything about it was spot on, and the foreshadowing was perfect. Because this is time travel, you are constantly having key plot points hinted at by characters who are all-knowing, having lived in the past. But the tool was used perfectly, and it was so good! The fact that Em and Marina were the same person was an incredibly interesting dual POV situation. I loved the main characters, even though some secondary ones seemed to fall off the face of the earth, however that often happens in YA. The ending proved to be too simple, and that's either the COMPLETE exploitation of the loophole, which is very disappointing, OR something really cool that's going to be explained in the sequel. I'm really hoping it's the latter. Speaking of which....Where's that sequel????
***UPDATE*** JULY 22, 2014
Cristin Terril announced yesterday that she will NOT be writing a sequel to All Our Yesterdays. As much as I'm sure we're a bit disappointed, I completely respect her decision as the author of the series. Honestly, the novel does work as a stand alone, and I would still recommend that you read it. However, the end does make sense now as per the short story she released today! So, all together, the novel is STILL great, and the concept of time travel was great, but there will be no sequel. She did say that she will hopefully releasing a novella of a collection of stories she's written in that universe, so we have that to look forward to!
